I’m a professional AV freelancer. I have worked in numerous fields to develop those skills but I am most at home in a corporate production. In the past I’ve been a salaried director for a production company but left to move and pursue opportunities in another state. I work about half my time local to the central Florida area and the other half wherever the work takes me, so I’m no stranger to travel jobs!
I started my career in the industry in small production company. The kind where you have to know a little bit about every department on a job because there wasn’t always an individual lead for each department on a show. This has rounded me out to be comfortable taking on multiple tasks in preparing and while running a show.
I am most comfortable in the environment of corporate production. We like to joke in this industry that stagehands come in two forms: pirates and technicians. I have tried my hand at a number of other fields in production but have always come to the conclusion I am firmly on the technician side. In addition to competently handling my duties, I am confident when speaking directly to end users and clients alike. I’ve found time and time again that when hired back by production companies they describe one of my main strengths to be the way I can communicate with end-clients to accomplish production needs.
One that is serious about quality. One that offers opportunities to learn [other skills] on the job. One that is excited to have professional technicians on their show. One that treats all their freelancers with respect.
